Thomas A. Groves

	Thomas A. Groves, 82, of Staunton, Ill., passed away Monday, June 24, 2001 at 4:40 p.m. at Fair Acres Nursing Home in DuQuoin.
	Mr. Groves was born December 16, 1919 in Weston, West Virginia, the son of Luther and Cora (Arthur) Groves.  He grew up and attended school in West Virginia.  He served in the Army in Germany during WW II.  He worked as a coal miner in West Virginia and when he came to Illinois in 1964 he continued working for coal mines above ground.  He retired in 1982 at Hoyleton and moved to Staunton in 1990.
	He was a member of Methodist Church  in West Virginia.  He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Staunton and the Shriners of E. St. Louis.
	He married Della Farley and she preceded him in death.  He then married Geraldine Scott on August 27, 1965 in Midland, Michigan. 
	Mr. Groves is survived by a step-son, Carl Scott of DuQuoin; daughters, Phyllis Groves of Nettie, W.V. and Karen, Mrs. Clyde Lilly of Levisay, W.V.; step-daughter, Katherine, Mrs. Ivan Glade of Staunton; five brothers Raymond Groves of Craigsville, W.V., Luther Groves Jr. of Canvas, W.V., David Groves of Nettie, W.V., Kenneth Groves of Nettie, W.V., Herby Groves of Nettie, W.V.; three sisters, Sylvia, Mrs. Ralph Amick of Levisay, W.V., Margarett Ritter of Richwood, W.V. and Imogene Pierce of Summersville, W.V.; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
	He was preceded in death by one son, Marshall Groves.
	Funeral services were Friday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Elmer Fenton officiating.  Interment was in Bethel Cemetery in Reno, Ill.
	Friends called beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Masonic Rites were conducted by Greenville Masonic Lodge 245 A.F. & A.M. at 7 p.m. Thursday.
	Memorials may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital.
